I am Nikki Floreno and this is my art-blog. I post sketchbook pages, photos of what I'm up to, and entries of my comic diary.
I have a passion for learning. Art is one of the subjects I just can't get enough of.
I entered their art magnet program at North Springs Highschool. My first award-winning artwork was a Self Portrait 'Myself' in 2006. It won first place Art Magnet award, I also recieved a certificate of Student Achievement, and later placed Silver Key of the Scholastic Arts.
I took that as proof that I could make art successfully, and decided to go to Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah. With all of the events and lectures that SCAD holds, I've learned a lot about every subject. The Sequential Department has many extra workshops and oppourinities of getting started in the business. For example, I sold my mini-comics at SCAD-Con (pictured to the left.) It was great practice for selling my work professionally and cost me nothing to get a table (which usually costs $100-$300.)
In winter quarter 2009, I went to Tokyo on an off-campus trip. I mainly went to study cartooning under Stan Sakai (in the photos above) and to take a class not usually avalaible in schools, Theme design. I came back from Tokyo, with a huge inspiration from Tokyo Disney, and started a group to enter the Imaginations contest that Disney holds each year, eager to become a part of the creation process and imagineering of theme parks.
Bellydancing is a new passion of mine. I only started bellydancing a year previously, but in summer of 2010 I became a troupe member of Sadirah. I've learned so much alreadly, and not just about how to bellydance, but about performance. Putting on shows, pacing, costuming, interacting with the audience, and keeping them entertained. And really, how is that so different from comics and theme design?
