Our first day in class of Character Design, Goto had us draw two classmates, each coincidiently were the only bearded ones in class, and then we chose our favorite. We were to take this drawing and ‘simplify and exaggerate it’. So we did. Then he said, “Good, do it again.” So we did. “Again.” You get it. After step two, I asked how the heck I could simplify it even more. That would’ve been the point where I normally would’ve stopped. But apparently, continuously pushing a design beyond what you think is already perfect or going beyond what you think is possible is the key to character design.

I freaking love this class.
